My Front Porch

I like my house. Each and every single room in it has offered me and my family with special memories. I enjoy all of the funny conversations that have taken place around the dining room table and the late night talks that have occurred in each of my children’s bed rooms. I have actually delighted in cooking excellent meals in my kitchen area and seeing my favourite movies in our family room. Perhaps my most preferred location, nevertheless, is our front porch.

When I was looking for houses to move my family to many years ago it didn’t even enter my mind to demand a house with a front porch. Now I know better. I have actually grown to love having a front porch nearly as much as I enjoy having indoor plumbing. (Okay, possibly that was a little an exaggeration!) I didn’t understand when I purchased this house the endless hours I would invest swinging or resting on the patio. I didn’t know the number of books would get check out or the number of blankets would be knit on the front porch. And I certainly couldn’t have guessed the number of friendships would be started and strengthened on my patio.

One of the most significant factors that I have actually grown to like my front porch is that it has actually become a meeting place for the people I like the most. I have numerous memories of summer season nights invested talking with a close friend or one of my children on the deck. Hours of games have actually been played, tears have actually been shed, and laughter has actually been shared on our patio. When my oldest child decided to learn to play the guitar it was the front porch that heard her practice hour after hour. When my child got his first sweetheart it was the front porch that listened to their nighttime telephone conversations. When my neighbours moved onto the street fifteen years ago our front porch was the area for our very first glass of lemonade together.

My front porch has also become my favourite place to be quiet and believe. I enjoy the early morning hours on my porch after everybody has gone off to school and work. I have spent numerous early mornings worrying about my children or dreaming about our next household getaway. Give me a cup of coffee, my journal, and a great book and I can spend whole days on the front porch. No where has actually been rather as welcoming and serene as our patio. I truthfully can not picture my house or the memories of the last twenty years without it.
